I went to an open jam Wednesday night, hosted by the Wichita Blues Society. They held it at the Shamrock Tavern right here in Delano, so it made sense to take a few hours off from everyday life and drop in with my axe. So Drew and I made an appearance, hit the stage for a few, networked a little... and had a fantastic time! I love hangin' with people who love this shit as much as I do! There were certainly musicians there who could play circles around me, but no one cared a bit... they hooted and hollered just the same when the Captain took the stage...
I guess they have it every month. I'm lookin' forward to the next one, and by the jam after that I might just have a CD to peddle! I'd like that.
Speakin' of which... we had a great recording session this past Sunday. I laid down a couple of guitar leads and another rhythm track during the morning hours, then Kevin Moore showed up with his sax. Dave added piano and organ to a few songs, and then Brend-O polished off the session with a round of additional percussion. *grins* I've got some great video of him playin' the tambourine, shakers and cowbell... He really explored the space!!
That just leaves us with guitar and vocal to finish up, which Bonnie and I should be able to do in just one more session. Then I've got a really big surprise... a guest musician I am humbled to bring on board! I don't wanna jinx it by making the announcement just yet, but I'm really tickled that this particular blast from my past has consented to make the trip from halfway across the country just to play on my album. I have truly been blessed with the talent and dedication of my contemporaries, and this album certainly never would've happened without their genuine love and support.
So keep checkin' back! I've got more great announcements yet to come... and if you see me out, don't hesitate to knock back a cold one with the ol' Captain!
Cheers!
